What size rope wix packing material should i use on the water pump shaft and any tips on where to buy rope wix?

I would think you'd want graphite-impregnated rope packing.

A GOOGLE search will turn up lots of sourced.

McMaster-Carr comes to mind.

On my JT I used graphite impregnated aramid packing that I got from McMaster Carr. It actually is square in shape. I don't remember if I used 1/8" or 3/16". I cut it into lengths and formed it into rings that wrapped around the shaft, then stacked several of the rings in there and tightened down the packing nut.
I got that advice from another gentleman who had done his that way. So far it is holding up well.
