Good luck, I never understood why my grandpa would weld and weld on his old mufflers when they were damaged.

His old welded ones produce 1/3 the noise of a new Stanley muffler. The new Stanley mufflers for the U302 and Jet 3 are particularly noisy. If you want a quiet muffler, pull out your wallet and visit a muffler shop or a dealer who sells quality exhaust products. It probably wont be cheap or look 100 % original.

thanks joe just what I figured Stanley is louder than old chevelle with open headers

Its not just the Stanley unit for the 302; the one that fits my ZTU is unbelievably loud. There is honestly very little difference between it and running a straight pipe, except the straight pipe doesn't have the "ting" like a metal can. I haven't gathered the funds to buy a nice replacement from Little Repair Shop, but plan too by summer.

Ive noticed that on my dads ZA as well. I usually wear ear plugs when I use it. I didn't know that the Little Repair Shop sold ones for the ZA. I might have to look into that.

Yeah, Stanley mufflers suck. How hard could it be to reproduce the original design? I think most were Nelson.
