Block gasket on 403 question

I'm building a 403 for pulling.
I've got flat top aluminum pistons. Currently they sit about 50 thousands below the deck of the block with the gaskets that came with my FelPro kit. My block gaskets are about 45 thousands thick. I expected the pistons to be at the top of the block (or even stick up a couple thousands per the person I bought the pistons from, and they would with a thin block gasket)

I still have the head gasket clearance so I've got quite a bit of clearance right now.

Is this the correct setup? Would I be better off with a thinner block gasket?

Consider how much your gaskets will
compress when you torque everything
down. May go a little thinner but
don't get carried away. Don't want
piston too close to the head.

That's why I measured. Even with no gasket, I should have 5 thousands clearance before the top of the block, plus the thickness of the head gasket.

What would be a good number to shoot for? Just seems like too much right now.

on any Moline I like .004 in the hole you still have your compressed head gasket ,your 403 will like compression, especially if its on gasoline. u don't have to use cyl. to block gasket just a little bit of silicone.
