Jetstar 3 super steering

I have a late model Jetstar 3 super with a steering problem. The steering is slow to respond and when you fist start it up it wont steer for a min or so. Its like the fluid is bypassing. I have done a pressure test on the remotes and in one of the steering lines and both checked to spec. If anyone has any ideas as to what to look for it would be appreciated. I have had the tractor for 15 years and it has slowly gotten worse. Thanks

Does this have an internal or external steering cylinder? Sounds like replacing the seals in the cylinder would be a good place to start. Also I think there is a divider valve or priority valve for the steering, I'd also check that out.

It has the internal cylinder. I think that is my problem after some checking.
I assume that if the fluid is bypassing in the cylinder it will go into the bolster were the steering gear is.

There is a breather and dipstick assembly located at the right rear of the radiator on the right hand top of the steering pedastool. Check the level and go from there. They will fill the front bolster up and overflow out the breather if they have failed really badly.

Mine does that too. I just turn the wheel some and it comes to life. Do you have any control for steering when the engine is not running? I have none, that is a real problem when it is dead and I got to move it. I use the forklift under the wide front and lift it to move it around.

Not sure of the year of your tractor or its similarity to mine but we had a 1965 M670 standard (non super) and it had the steering shaft go to a control valve on the left front side and inside of this valve was a small lever which actuated the direction of the power steering oil to the cylinder which helped to steer the front wheels. If it became worn it would reduce steering assistance.
On our G1000 which had a hydramotor system if it became worn it would bypass power steering oil and it was difficult to steer and rather erratic. Also the pump on the side which was belt driven would sometimes wear and produce insufficient steering oil pressure. The G1000 system may be more like your tractor being a super model.
