I recently picked up a 1958 mm445. Have not gotten a manual on it because cant find one im sure it will cover what i need. First question, everything i read refers to the ampli-tork trans. Mine only has the factory plug where the handle would go if it had one.
I assume this is normal and my tractor is only a 5-speed. the tractor runs like a top, no problems except the PTO runs all the time. The handle moves freely and locks in to engage, but when unlocked (moved forward) it wont stop. Cant stop it with my foot applying pressure. Previous owner said with a shredder hooked up it would not turn unless engaged. is there an external adjustment for this or do i have to pull the top off of trans housing. Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks

That's normal for a Minni PTO and there is no correcting it, so don't put yourself out. The PTO clutch is a multiple disc wet clutch and just the presence of oil between the discs when disengaged provides enough friction to make everything turn. It'll stop when you hook something up to it. We Minni folks become accustomed to shutting the tractor off to hook up PTO equipment.

Thanks for your reply and your help. This is my first MM. Fell in love with it real quick. I have to ask, would new 80w90 oil help or even tractor hyd? Again thanks!

My dad bought a brand new 445 universal for the live PTO, for on the cornpicker, and the dealer had a darn good mechanic, he couldn't get it too stop either, but we couldn't use it on the cornpicker either, In the morning it would run the picker out of gear!!

If the pto plates are warped a little it will turn regardless what oil is in it. If you plan on using it much I wouldn't go with to light of oil or you may end up worse than what you are now.

I thank you again for your help. haven't addressed the PTO yet,
I guess they were built with to close of tolerance. its hard to beleive they made this tractor for three years and didn't address the problem.
The other part of my original question was about the ampli-torq trans. Did they make a 445 with a straight 5 spd trans? Or, do I have one thats been modified? All of the pics i"ve seen of these
tractors all have that lever on the right side where I have a rubber seal, a washer and a bolt. Again, thanks and any help will be greatly appreciated.
