vista engine

I don't think there should be any, we had one years ago that was overhauled by an MM dealer in Fargo, they bored it to 60 over and put new pistons and rings in it. It ran great until you would load it down for a couple minutes and then it would start a deep knock, you could idle it back and it would go away. We tore it down ourselves and found one piston was taller than the rest. Machine shop cut it back to flush like the other 5 and it is still running good today.

It might of been Branick @ Swedberg, They were definitely the Oliver dealer, in Fargo. And there was a good dealer in Marion North Dakota [a good mechanic] but that closed in the late 1960's!!![[

Yes, it was Swedberg Inc. They were Oliver but when things started going sour for MM the dealership in Casselton closed and it went to join Oliver in Fargo while White took things over. They didn't like MM there so that's probably why the tractor came out with a knock. Actually the head mechanic there said that boring blocks out was a joke and wanted to go back and put standard blocks on it. It was just a place to got MM parts for a few more years.

So was the MM dealer, is where Central sales is now in Casselton? And Swedberg Inc was where Hall GMC was, do I have that right ?

You haven't provided enough details to correctly answer your question.

What block gaskets are you using ? WWhich head gaskets.? Are you trying to achieve better cold starting along with the overhaul process ?

I used the gaskets from the felpro set. It starts hard and 2 don't want to fire at all. New tips and new ex valves with the recession within spec. I think that the gaskets might be to thick, the block gasket mics .045th. I did a compression check and the ones don't fire are low. Who would have thinner gaskets? Thanks for all the input. Bob

Check with lublock gaskets or make your own.

Hoe do you know 2 cylinders aren't firing?

I have heard of people gong 0.005 out of the top of the block. I would be satisfied with 0.000. Also what piston rings did you use, there are custom fit options that will make it start like a 2015 diesel pickup. I assembled a 6 cyl MM diesel engine and I have it starting at 0' without ether or obviously glow plugs and it doesn't roll over twice.

No, that MM dealer in Casselton was called Trom Farm Store in the mid to late 60s and it was located north of the main business block I'm thinking west of the Locker Plant or North and west. The IH dealership was just next door to the east I think. The MM dealer had a lot across the street to the North of the store where the tractors like the new Vista we bought in 68 was parked along with other units. I think it probably closed around the early 70-71 time and the dealership went to Swedberg on west main avenue. That building is now something else, Hall's is down further E.
