I am looking for a mechanical temp. gauge with a capilary of about 85 inches for a MM U. Does anyone know where I can find one. I have looked at several sites and 72" seems to be the longest I can find, except for one on ebay that is 12' long. Any help would be greatly welcomed.
Thanks

The original part # for the temp. gauge from MM was 10A2229. I'm not sure of the correct length of the capillary tube, but normally 72" should be long enough. Maybe someone has moved the capillary tube to a location in the head other than where it was originally. You should be able to call any White tractor dealer and they can call Agco to find out the original length. If you find one that will work, but is too long, roll it up into a coil. If you cut the capillary tube to shorten it, the gauge is trash.

72 inches (6ft) should be plenty long. Didn't check but, I doubt that it is 6ft from the dash to the radiator on a "U". I'm not sure but I think that is about the length of the original.

where is the sending unit on your tractor located. On mine the sending unti is about 10 inches from the front of the engine, on the carburetor side of the engine. Thanks

I happened to be doing some work on my UTS and so took the attached pics. It has a 72" lead on the gauge. The sending unit is about 7" or so back from the front of the head. I also have two UB's which are similar. Hope this helps.

thanks very much for the pictures. Mine attaches in the same place as yours, however the gauge I bought has a 72" capilary and it is about 12" short. Mine is run on the carburetor side from front to back I will try it on the other side to see if it makes a difference.
Thanks again.

That's a good question. You may want to check that out.
We have a U out at Farmamerica with a 72" gauge in it. The person who installed it ran it up the carburetor side and it still reached.

Hi Richs toys,
I noticed what appears to be an after market hydraulic pump on your UTS. Is that the case and what is it. I will appreciate some details on it. Thanks, Jim

Not sure if something was changed, all I know is that the 72" capilary (measured 72") is too short. The old one was 89",I figured 85" would be long enough. Thanks for all the input.

jnf,

I believe that's a Char Lynn pump. I have a UB which has the same pump on it.

I don't know a lot about this one. It was on the tractor when I got it and is currently not hooked up. The hose is just looped between the two ports. I picked up a fluid reservoir (under the gas tank) and the plan is to find a control valve and hook everything up, and hopefully the pump still works.
