Coleman FWA Axle help needed

The input (pinion) shaft is locked-up on the Coleman FWA axle on my MF 97 (same as the MM G-706). I bought it as a rebuilt unit, which it may have been. Unfortunately there was no lubricant in it when I got it. I found this out after it locked-up on me. I was not able to pull the input (pinion) shaft and bearings from the housing. Looks like I am going to have to press them out. In order to do that, I need to get the ring gear and differential out of the way. I have the differential unit removed from the axle, but haven't been able to get the ring gear out of the casting.

This is where I'm looking for advice from anyone who has had one of these apart. What is the trick to getting the ring gear out past the pinion pilot bearing support in the casting? Do I have to completely take the differential apart? Or, if I can get the carrier bearing pulled off one side can I get the ring gear out that way?

Hoping for some good advice here!

Thanks!

Just wanted to let you know problem solved! It is apart. Now I just need to find some bearings.

I had to pull the input shaft and differential from the axle housing as a unit. The differential and it's carrier bearings were okay. However, the pinion shaft pilot bearing, and inboard carrier bearing were a mess. I had to drive the input shaft out of the housing, then press the carrier bearings off. The shaft was not damaged in that area. The end of the pinion shaft was a different story. The pilot bearing is supposed to be a slip-fit onto the pinion shaft. On this unit, the end of the shaft had been "swaged" to lock the pilot bearing onto the shaft. Had to cut the inner race off with a die grinder and cutting disk. That revealed that the inner race had partially welded itself to the shaft. And, an indication this wasn't the first repair job in this area. Fortunately I have a friend with a machine shop. He turned down the shaft and sleeved it back to the proper OD to fit a replacement pilot bearing. Now I just need to get it all put back together.
