Spin on oil filter adapters

I am working on an Oliver Hart-Parr 18-28 tractor and need to come up with an oil filter set up for it. The old original filter was just a felt pack that was washable. It was replaced at some time with a cartridge filter that was not installed correctly at all. I saw some spin on adapters on ebay for Z,and R and a larger one for U tractors. I figured out the filter thread sizes but what is the size of the threads that screw into the filter base. The old hart-parr uses 9/16x18 threads. If the threads are the same as mine I would not have to make an adapter. If I can make a spin on work it would be more practical than making adapters to accept a newer style cartridge filter.

You may want to start here: http://www.autolite.nl/bougies/pdf/FRAM2012.pdf Go down to Products - Principal Applications look under I.D. specs. and see if you can get a match on what you have.

Sir,
The oil filter adapter you might look at would be the one used on the MM R and Z tractors. It is commonly known as #60A23 and it fits many tractors besides Molines. This adapter uses the same 9/16"-18 threads. From what I have heard about the later Oliver tractors; they use the #60A23 adapter with a Chevy pickup truck spin on filter. Your Hart-Parr may follow the same route.

Most all of the early oil filters are just variations of the original patented filter design Purolator invented. The smaller units used a smaller 9/16"-18 thread and the larger units used a 11/16"-16 thread central column. Everyone just made minor variations to fit the standard filter to their engines. I believe many Oliver owners with Oliver 90 and 99D use the #60A32 adapter on their oil filter systems. They just use a NAPA #1791 truck filter with the adapter.

I have no drawings on your tractor, but have discovered that a great number of different manufacturers used the exact same oil filter systems on engines and hydraulic systems. Many people use the MM filter adapters on American LaFrance, Ingersoll Rand, Continental, Waukesha, Chicago Pneumatic, and a host of other equipment. I get calls weekly for oil filter adapters and water pump seals for machines I have never heard of. Generally we find out that unobtainable parts are just a lack of knowing what is out there.

Drop me a line sometime and hopefully your oil filter problem can be solved quickly. If possible; have the oil cartridge filter number that was used on your tractor. That will generally point out what your manufacturer used for a filter design.

Good luck.
