Is it true that the if your U has both brake pedals on the left side that is 1952 and later? Because I have a U that way but checking the serial number its a late 1950.

Now my 1947 U if I remember right one
brake pedal on the left and two on the
right, and they are drum brakes. My
1950 U with disc and both pedals on the
left

Disc brake on a U came out in 1953. Several changes were made in mid 1952 to fenders starter and ring gear. Also hood around rad and hood sides had no vents. Cooling system was pressurized so different rad and rad cap were used. Also first of 12v system.

My 1945 UTU has 2 on the right and one on the left. the two on the right were hard to press with that foot smasher lift unit on there. I wonder how many farmers had their foot crushed or pinched behind that lift unit.

My '50 UTS has 1 brake on the left and 1 on the right with another on the right outside to engage both brakes

Repair catalog R 115A shows four different configuratons of brakes for 1952-3. Group 1A for with LPTO or with out and group 1B with and also without LPTO.

The LPTO setup was only used with disc brakes. LPTO was an option and to accomodate the option the old brake setup was removed and bull pinion shaft was changed.

LPTO insallation manual. NOTE: On tractors with serial number prior to 01108798 left brake pedal will have to be removed.

There is left brake actuator in lpto side and other actuator on right. One brake for each side. Email me if you want a diagram.
