Value of 1948 ZTN

Local guy selling his 1948 ZTN. Says it is one of 450 made. Supposed to run well, needs all 3 tires, and is missing the grill and a few other small items. It's been sitting a while, but will be started before a purchase made.
I would appreciate some input from those who know MM tractors. Have restored Olivers, Farmalls, JD's, Cletracs.... this would be my first MM. Thank you in advance.

Up here in Minnesota I would think without seeing it the value would be around $1000-1500. A lot of other things factor into it. Tires are expensive. You said it needs those. If the rear wheels are rusted out that is another expense. Engine can get expensive in a hurry if it is all wore out. His number of them made is correct. You may want to check that it is the correct front end configuration for the serial number. If its a really straight tractor that only needs tires and a few small things, its worth more on the higher end. If it looks like something my cousins own, turn and run or buy it for scrap price.

Check the prices on those tires first and for most. I have a RTN and that front tire can be
hard to get let alone expensive. Chris is pretty much on target with everything he said.

Thanks. Asking price is similar to what you said. Yikes the single front tire alone is $300. Cannot find a picture of one on the internet or in my library.... I guess with 450 made there wouldn't be one handy.
Did they come with side panels (missing) and a swivel seat (present)? Could make a better decision if I knew what to look for.

I'm sure not no expert on the ZTN, but I just brought 1948 few months ago and learning, if I remember right there was only 458 made, 100 in 48 which was the last year, price that was said I think would be about right if engine trans is good, I did get mine for less but I just found a good deal, but had to go a million miles for it lol, but good luck on it. mike

I've got a UTN front end that has an airplane tire on it. 255mph speed limit! Probably not a cheap tire either, but something to think about. Might find a used one cheaper. You would never tell what it is unless you looked close.

I don't want to act nor sound like a "sourpuss" but keep in mind the front ends of these tractors were very easy to switch out. I would check out the serial number tag to be for certain you are viewing a genuine ZTN. I have seen a few tractors (3 I believe) in the last year that were advertised as one thing, decaled as such, but when you look at the serial tag they are actually something different. No matter what you get in the ZT line, I think you would like it, at least I love mine. :) They are fun to operate and look/show very nice. Again, not trying to dampen your excitement, just want to make sure there is no possibility of disappointment at a later time. If you get it, we love pictures on this board and would love to see it.

The serial number plate does have the prefix "ZTN". I'll try to get over there this week and take a few pictures, try to start the thing and see if it runs OK.
We don't see MM tractors much in northern Arizona... and oddly enough a pretty good looking RT has come up for sale also.
How does the RT stack up against the ZT? I know it's a little smaller in engine size.

R is smaller tractor - smaller engine, different transmission - R has internal brakes (pain - have to disassemble axle to work on) and as I recall there are 3 major variations in size and number of discs (early ones very hard to find) while Z has external brakes (easier to deal with and probably more standard)

What size front tire do you need I have some used 10 inch (I think 7.50-10 and 9.00-10) - the 7.50-10 are mostly industrial / highway design but the 9.00-10 are multi-rib.

What part of northern AZ. I have a 1948 RTN down here in Phoenix, I found it out in Toas NM
