Anybody ever sleeve an engine you were actually going to use? I bought a ub. It got water in it and broke one of the jugs. Im planning on using this tractor quite a bit. It would sleeve but I'm not sure about longevity. The guy that does my machine work says it'll be fine he leaves a shelf at the bottom so it can't slip. Anybody got any experience with this?

I'm betting you can buy a used jug cheaper than you can have a block sleeved. As to longevity I think it would be fine. I've heard of plenty of people having a block sleeved. Haven't heard any stories of catastrophic failure yet. Sleeved one cylinder on a Ford 6.0L that melted a piston this spring. So far so good. The only issue with yours I could think of would be the crack. If coolant comes behind the sleeve and starts working its way out somewhere, that would be a problem. They fit really tight though. Machine shops usually know what they are doing.

Any quality machine shop can sleeve it as with any other engine. I agree you can buy a jug cheaper. If you were close, I have several.

I live in central NC. Not many MMs around and shipping from Midwest for something like a U cylinder block is expensive. I have 2 Us that I show that are sleeved all around. So far no problems.

Like your machine shop guy said, need to leave a shoulder at the bottom of the cylinder so the sleeve can't drop out the bottom. They probably should have no problems if no shoulder if the bore in the block is correct size anyway, but the shoulder is just added insurance.

I don't know what they quote now, but used to be $48 for first cylinder and $36 for all the others, back in the '90s.

$100 puts a sleeve in the one hole I need it in. If anybody will sell a jug for that there's a lot more of them where you are at then here. However if anyone is has one in that price range I'm in central il and I have a commercial address so I can recieve truck freight. Basically I can get somthing shipped anywhere in the country for $75 as long as its strapped to a pallet.

If I can get two id be interested.my grandpa's g900 got water in it last year and needs one as well.
