M602 shifting issue

I have my grandfather's MM, with a loader. When loading something under pressure (wall of dirt), it is a bear to shift out of gear. Any thoughts?

I agree, having the ampli-torque in low range will help. I have an M5 that wont fully release in to low range when you pull the lever back and from what I have been told that could be from the plates wearing / mushrooming the splines on the shaft. It can be nearly impossible to get out of gear at times in a situation like yours. You can get good at taking it out of gear just as you push the clutch in and you have just a couple of seconds before it gets to the point of being tight.

I'm learning to "quickly" shift out of gear, just before forward-momentum stops it. I stay in Hi-TA, then can always idle down, an drop in Lo-TA, which sometimes works.

Yep, that's the nature of the beast. I have to put it in Low-Range to get it out of gear, kind of a pain in the butt. I wanted to get something else for loader work, but nobody will give me much for my 602 with the loader.

Tractor works great all around, just occasional shifting pain. I live in the arctic of North Dakota (5 degrees BELOW zero windchill today!), and have kept the 602's tank-heater plugged in for last couple days, and will for next couple. Any problems with leaving it plugged in? It has a good thermostat.

I used to keep my Kenworth plugged in all weekend when I got home, never had any problems.
