G1000 rear end oil

I know this has been discussed in the past but I need to drain the rear end on my G1000 Vista to seal some oil leaks. Should I use Hy-Tran or a heavy oil? The tractor does mostly light duty jobs but occasionally more when needed. Thanks for the help!

I just went through this with our G1000. My decision was to go with the heaver oil 85/140. This is based on a lot of feedback I received here on the forum. The hydraulics and the rear gear case are separate compartments on these tractors. My suggestion is even with light work, go with the 85/140.

Vista's have a pump to pump lubricant where needed. It was designed to operate with lighter oil, not gear lube. We ran Vistas when new and for many years pulling heavy loads in 3rd low and even broke alfalfa ground with a 7-16s and packer in 2nd low a few times. 24ft field cultivator etc. and have never even removed the cover on the transmission on any of the three. I think that speaks for itself. No need for the heavy gear lube. The original oil was almost green and it had a shimmer to it. When that needed changing we used a 303 fluid that Amoco had, then later 1000 fluid. They all worked fine.

I believe if you do any work with it in colder temperatures the lighter oil would work better with the lube pump. Imagine how thick your engine oil gets when it is cold, then multiply it several times, that is what your lube pump has to pump.

If you have a three speed torque then you need to stay with the hytran. If you use the thick oil you will starve the clutch packs, that little pump was not to be used on 85/140 or anything else that thick. burn that 3 speed up and then you will see how expensive life gets.

I believe the vista uses the same lube pump that the row crop does. But I may be mistaken on that. When I was having this discussion a couple of months ago on the forum about my row crop there was no concern about the thicker oils and the pump.

Here is a link to the discussion we had this spring:
