Starter Solenoid Wiring

The starter on my 46 ZTN needed to be replaced. I got another starter off of a ZB and had it rebuilt. The battery cable attached directly to the starter post on the original starter. However, the starter from the ZB has a 3 terminal solenoid. I have several wiring diagrams but none show how to wire the extra terminals. Does anyone have a wiring diagram showing where to run the extra wires? The terminal opposite tractor side has a copper strap that is attached to the starter post. The battery cable attaches to the other side. There is another wire on this same terminal that appears to run to the ampmeter gauge. No idea where the small wire that attaches to the top of the solenoid runs to. Will this starter with the solenoid relay work on my ZTN or should I just remove the solenoid and attach the battery cable directly to the starter? My email is open but noted her as well. [email protected] Thanks in advance for any of your suggestions.

If you attach battery cable direct to ZB starter where copper strap connects it will run continually.

You have the ZB starter wired correctly. Battery cable supplies power to one side of solenoid. When solenoid closes it applies power to copper strap to turn the starter.

Wire from ammeter to battery cable on solenoid is the charge wire from generator through ammeter.

The small wire activates the solenoid when voltage is applied to it. This should be activated by a push button switch on dash panel. One side of switch to solenoid, other side to charge side of ammeter.

Now, remove the old activating device. It could be a large push switch or another solenoid mounted away from starter.

You know the ZB starter was 12v. don't you? Being a starter, it may not matter.

If you want it wired like original for the ZTN, and you have the big heavy duty push button starter switch in/under the dash, Just take the solenoid off the ZB starter and remove the copper strap to the post on the side of the starter, then connect the battery cable from that big switch in the dash to that post on the starter.

On your ZTN, your dash electrical and generator electrical get their power somewhere else than from the battery cable on the post at the starter. It should be obvious when you open up the dash. I am thinking it will be where the other battery cable connects to that big starter switch.

The shop that did the starter rebuild prepared it for 6 volt. They also but a 6 volt sticker on the new solenoid. I am pretty sure nothing changed in the starter. Thanks for the input.
