Hello dose any one have any thoughts on putting HyTran type oil in a 445 instead of 80 90 , years ago I had a salvage yard tell me that the T A was more apt to grab with thinner oil, makes sense in the winter , I also put a TA sprag clutch from a 900 into my 670 super it was about twice a wide never had trouble again .. Thanks Bryan

herk,
For a 445 tranny, use gear oil. I personally use 85-140 gear oil. HyTran will not do. MM designed that unit to use gear oil for gears and original Dextron(The yellow stuff) was intended for the hydraulics . I personally use Dextron/Mercon for all of the hydraulic applications. They did not compromise and use something in the middle.

TyTran is too viscous to be used as a hydraulic fluid, but it works. Hytran also lacks the shear strength and cushion of gear oil, but it just barely works. In short; it is the worst of both worlds.

No one ever screwed up by using the better grade of lube. Take this advice with a grain of salt. I am the guy that uses 15w45 diesel oil in the push mower. I hate to wrench and I do not price shop for lubricants. I am too poor to afford the cheap stuff.

Happy motoring.
