GB water pump issue

Water pump was leaking water out the weep hole on our GB. The seal was riding against the brass bushing that the shaft turns in. The bushing had come forward about an eighth of an inch so the seal did not meet the facing. Replaced the seal and bushing and had success, for a while. Now the problem has repeated itself. Why does this bushing want to come forward? It does not drive in hard, but is not loose either.

Sir,
If you have a pump bushing walking out, try using some Locktite green retaining compound to tighten things up.The green stuff is advertised to normally fill a four thousandths gap of those that have spun out.

In the 'good old days' we would knurl the bushing exterior or knurl the bore to increase the interference. I suggest a five thousandths interference on this application.

Happy motoring.
