What's the best way to split one, cherry picker/A frame, or just a floor jack. Friend has one he is splitting for another friend and was just curious what works the best, or just use what you can find. Also anything out of the normal when splitting one and installing a new clutch? thanks chris

The best way I suppose is to have all the proper splitting tools and I sure don't have them. I split a few of these and have used an A-frame with casters to suspend the engine, a bottle jack under the clutch housing. Split and roll the front end and engine away from the rear end. Be careful!

They are not bad to split. Just have to hold motor straight as it will flop sideways when unhooked from rearend. They can be nasty to line back up. Best to use long bolts to line up. You are playing with a lot of weight!

They are not normal, in the sense that there is no pilot shaft or throwout bearing to line up when going back together. Very easy to do- one of the easiest splits I've ever done. A common '50s IH front stand will bolt to the rear with just a little grinding. These are easy to find, and cheap. I used a heavy duty mill cart for the front half. Just what I had around. The engine is not attached to the rear of the frame rails, so you need to support the engine and the rails.
