What are the differences between an UB and an UB Special??

Differences that I am aware of are that the Special has power steering; a front axle that easily interchangeable between wide, narrow, or single wheel; a different styling of front grill; the ring gear and pinion are common with the GB whereas a UB is common with the U.

Have seen several U or UB Specials. None had the power steering option. The front bolster was changed to accomodate power steering. Hood and side panels are also different. Panels are removable and quite often were removed and lost. Rad is different as it has cast top and bottom tank is in casting of bolster like M5, 5 Star etc.

Also, a UB Special has an oil filter in the oil pan which can be hard to come by. A UB uses an oil filter in a vertical canister on the left side of the engine as does the U.

UB Diesel also uses the oil filter in the pan.

All Specials U or UB gas or diesel used the same filter.
