Tach drive on 670 Super

The tach drive on my 670 Super has the stub of the drive shaft rusted solid in it. Any ideas on how to get it out? Am soaking on Kroil now,
can't reach it with anything.... Thanks.

Not good to take out... worse to reinstall. Your best bet is to buy a pair of snap-on side cutters with the cutting edge square against the side of the pliers, not offset 0.075" like the standard type. Then, pry it out. After this, you will want to make an aluminum driver to push the new insert in. Also, unscrew the seal holder from the crankcase to allow room to work. Honestly, I would pull the oil pump out so that you have room to work. This is about a 1 hour job on the 670 that will save a lot of struggle.

If possible, try to just pry the cable out with side cutters and buy a new cable. Last option is to intall a new insert in the oil pump. It can go really good or really bad quickly.

Thank you. If I can get the insert out, it'll be a piece of cake.....then on the other hand, I can also keep staring at a tach that doesn't work....Ha!
