Stroking a Diesel

I was wondering if anyone has stroked a D336 in a M670? Have a chance at a Super with the 3 speed and thought it might make a good puller.
I know MM diesels are not known for putting out a lot of power. Any ideas to make some power are appreciated. Also will a G crank fit in like a
gas engine?

In my opinion on a 3 speed 670 Super, and just my opinion mind you, I wouldn't. If something breaks in the 3 speed it is junk as you wouldn't likely find parts to fix it. Parts are scarce for them.

I second Alan. Too rare of a tractor to abuse. It would be awful sad to see one of those get abused like that given the low production numbers. Plus, you tear up the three speed, where are you going to find parts?

The GB crank should fit fine in the M670, but I have been told its not a good idea to stroke a 4 cylinder diesel. I think the 6 cylinder cranks are stronger, and you could probably put a 605 crank in a GBD or GVI.

Thanks for the comments. I think I will just add it to the projects to do list and restore it. I like playing with the LP's better anyway.

How much were you thinking of stroking the crank? Remember on a diesel crank you need to grind the hardness off first then weld up the crank and then weld it up again with the wire that will harden the crank again.

The GB crank has much smaller pins than the diesel. I had thought about doing the same thing, but decided to stick with the factory diesel crank for now. The diesel crank is big, but it is also a 3 main. If I ever decide to go to more stroke, I will have a new billet crank made.

I did it. Used a G crank, have 30+ hooks on it, I run a 4 mph class (at 2100 rpm) and have spun it as much as 2800. Don't believe all the naysayers. I'm not the first one to do it, either.
