M670-M5 Question

I have an M670 with major transmission problems & an M5 with major engine trouble. Can I split these tractors and bolt the front half of the M670 to the back half of the M5? They seem to be similar. Has anyone done this? Any information would be appreciated.

In short yes they can. In long do you have a super 670 or a non super?

If your 670 is a non super just roll them apart and back together with no problems. if you have a super 670 you will want to just install the M670 336 engine into the M5 chassis.

You might need to change the starter. I think the starter rings are different. Another thing is the hydraulic pump. A super 670 has the pump at the front behind the radiator, while the M5 is on the back above the pto. I hate the gear shift tower on the M5.

First photo is an M670 Super (mine), second photo is a regular M670. (photo I saved off of the internet, credit goes to that guy for a nice tractor)

Quick thing is to look for a steering shaft on the side like a M5. If it has the shaft it is a 1965 M670, no shaft it is a newer M670 Super with hydrostatic steering.
