Minneapolis Moline 5 Star LPG

A Grape 1

New User
I just purchased my first MM. It is a 1957 LPG with the adjustable wide front-end. I have some manuals ordered, but hope to get it running this weekend. There is no ignition and no battery. Is this tractor a negative ground machine? I can handle getting an ignition wire, but need help on the ground.

Thank you for the reply Larry. The tractor has an alternator with a Motorola Electronic Regulator. At least that is what is on it now.

My '65 M670 currently has an alternator and is hooked up as negative ground but the ammeter reads backwards. I am the only one that drives it and I know about the problem, but it is kinda funny to look at.

Take a lookat the coil If the + side goes to the distributor it was + ground if the _ side goes to the dist it was negative ground

Thanks Ill John. The + side of the coil does go to the distributor. I just got the operators manual in the mail and the wiring schematic has the + terminal of the battery going to ground.

If it has been switched to an alt. It would be negative grd. And they probably didn't know enough to switch the coil.
