Pulling the 585 engine out of an A4T. Would it be best to support the transmission next to the bell housing? The drop box is supported by brackets to the frame. Long span from there. Should I just support it from the top of the front differential? Any help would be appreciated. Mike

I'm sure that supporting it from the top of the differential would be fine. I remember years ago we pulled the whole engine out of ours to do a complete overhaul and we had two tall tree log blocks stood up on each side of the long rails out front to support everything while we had that heavy bracket off that bolts under the frame and allows the front differential to oscillate. It wasn't that complicated once we got going on it. We picked the bottom block out & reinstalled it with a Farmhand loader at the time I remember.

Where is this A4T-1600 located in Texas? We have a couple 1400's in Rosebud Texas. Ours both have the 585 diesel engines.

Got the engine out today without any problems. Had a nylon strap on each lifting eye of the engine. Put one on each fork of the forklift. Moved the front of the engine sideways a little at a time until I could get a bar between the crankcase and bellhousing. And once it cleared the dowel pins, it lifted right out. Of course the clutch and pressure plate had to clear the bell housing. Transmission stayed in place. Mike

Yeah, it figured who it is now. You need to come see the toys sometime. I don't know if Rusty is on this forum enough to catch me.
