UB Diesel Special rear end

I am working on a 1955 ub diesel special and I drained rear end oil to change. I took the Triangle cover off top of trans and noticed metal pieces. I took the pto assembly out of rear end and picked some of the bigger pieces out. I have tractor jacked up and turned both wheels, but can't see anything that is broke or any bearing that would be out. Hopefully the pictures will load. Looking for any suggestions or input as to was the pieces are from. Thanks

There are some about an inch long by a quarter inch. Then there are 6 that look the same about 3/8 by 1/4 with little tabs on each side.

Here are the pics for you kgreg.

I don't know but I think I'd pop the top and have look. I'm thinking maybe pieces of those big locking type washers that may have been under an axle nut that holds the bull gear and all that together.

If you have the PTO out you can check the washers
Curt is talking about. My best guess is ball bearing
on one of the counter shafts (brake shaft). Take off
outside covers on the brakes. One of them is
probably full of grease. This is common on U-UB, G s
with many hours.

I have taken a few apart with similar metal pieces, and found
nothing wrong. My guess was that someone fixed the problem
and failed to get the chunks out. (Lucky me I guess). But I
agree you had better take a closer look.

I think the best thing you could do is sell it to me at scrap price
lol

I have a ubsd that was leaking a large amount
of oil from the right hand brake. After
disassembly i discovered that several balls had
come out of the outer bull pinion bearing. The
balls went through the bull gear and split
acouple of them in half!! Bull gear was perfect
but about 1/4" of the pinion teeth were gone.
Put in new new bearing and seals, and took a
shim out, perfect now. That had to be soiusly
noisy when that happened! Also i stuck a large
magnet between the the bull gears to collect
what i couldnt clean up.

I would check the left bottom counter shaft rear bearing too
thru the Pto hole. Two of the last five tractors I have had
apart that bearing has been missing the cage and
sometimes some balls.
