38 U radiator

I've been working on the 38 UTS-serial #300 that I salvaged two years ago. I have rebuilt the engine and am close to finishing it but my radiator shop said I should get a new core for $800.00 It looked really good when I took it in I thought but he says it's brittle. Does that sound right or is he trying to double his money on a job. Does anyone out there have a better choice since I am getting a lot into this job already as I had to find and bore a new block and then the head because it was cracked badly & carburetor rebuilt. A radiator and exhaust manifold and some 32" rims and it might be almost ready to run again so if anyone has any of these let me know what you have.

I have an extra 32 inch rim and would have a rad. Shipping would be an issue. Manifold would have small bore.

Where are you located? I am in SE North Dakota. What would you want for the items and what condition is the radiator in. Like I said I have one that looked good but isn't. My email should be open. Thanks

If radiator man said it is brittle it probably is. I have a 43 Z that the radiator looked ok on the outside but couldn't clean it. The engine ran hot. Ended up with a new core. Like one guy said lots of MM radiators only had "one life". He saw a lot of them as he has a used tractor parts business. Bob

In for a penny in for a pound. I have an RTI I bought for $75 at an auction and then put $2500 into it. Keep us posted on your progress
good luck

Nice looking tractor. Don't see a lot of those with the red grille especially narrow front ones.

No red nose U narrow fronts were made in 1938. There was a few made in 39 but majority made in 40 and 41. Red nose UTS were made in all four years with least in 1938. The UOPN used the first 25 serial numbers 310000-310025. Next came the UTS which went to serial number 310026 to 310500. UDLX used the next batch of numbers to 3100526, Another batch of UTS were made to 3100546. So there was a total of 495- 1938 UTS's. Also remember ar this point of time the MM/TC KTA was also still being produced but in low numbers deleting the 1929-38 KT series. Would have been something to see in 1938 the MM lineup. It was probably the greatest and most advanced lineup in history

That's the reason that I wanted to save this one with SN-300 I thought it was kind of a neat thing and it has the fast road gear. It is very complete when I bought it from a nearby farm. I also have a nice running 41 UTU with the same gears to match it.

Many years ago I had a leak in my bulldozer radiator and I knew my usual radiator guy would want to recore it so I asked around and went to another guy who said he could fix it but could not guarantee it. Yup its still holding and it must be at least 15 years. JD 450B that has seen some hours in those years. I also have the same pair 38 UTS and 41 UTS sorry no extra parts.

Hello try M and O radiator in Garfeild He replaced the rad in my 445 for about 450$ 320 834 3522. Good luck Bryan
