Ampli-torc disassembly

I have the ampli-torc removed from the tractor (MM U302 Super) and am trying to disassemble it to replace the plates, etc. How do you get it apart? The tech book talks as if they come off towards the front of the tractor but there is a spacer there with a lip that won't let the parts off that direction. Do I have to remove the spacer from the shaft OR do I have to remove the back gear from the shaft and take everything off that way? I don't want to start pounding on anything until I am certain which way it comes apart as I do not want to break anything. Thanks in advance for your help.

From what I remember from my Jetstar 3 Super, take the clutch and clutch shaft out, remove the front cover to the torque compartment (like 6 bolts, be careful not to damage shims), remove the top cover from the torque compartment under the fuel tank, remove the lever, reach in from the front with a lot of extensions and take out the 6 bolts that holds it to the front of the transmission, then I think it should all slide out the front as one assembly. Put that on the bench to tear down further. I & T books did a descent job of explaining the ampli-torc, at least for my Jetstar. Good luck.

Just to add, don't know if it makes a difference but it might be best to lock it in high range before taking it out? I know that was mentioned to me before replacing the seal on the front cover.

Thanks for the reply guys. Just to clarify though, I have the ampli-torc out of the tractor. What I am trying to do is disassemble it so that I can remove and replace the drive/driven discs within it but I am not certain as to how it comes apart. I believe there are two possible ways as noted in my original post but I would like to be certain which way is the proper way so that I don't break anything.

Remove the gear from the rear of the shaft. If you try to remove the sleeve from the front, you will likely break it. The sleeve comes as part of the shaft and is not available separately.

Ok thanks that maks sense although the tech book makes it sound like it is supposed to come off the other way. The gear on the rear is just held to the shaft by an internal spline right? The shaft has a spline that messes with the rear gears internal spline correct? I should be able to simply take a punch and put it inside/through the rear gear and knock out the shaft from the inside?
