206 pistons

Just pulled apart a seized 206 J motor out of a G144 combine. On the top of all pistons there is a large M stamped. Any ideas?

Sir,
Most MM factory installed pistons were marked with a letter to designate the weight of the piston. I have seen the weight symbol both stamped and inked.

Now we piston manufacturers just decide on a specific weight, and just make all pistons of one size that specific weight. This simplifies the supply chain greatly.

The mark could be just a maker's mark too. Original Clevite/MM pistons had stamped letters to designate the lot number of the piston's pedigree. M&W had several companies making pistons for them and some suppliers marked their pistons with a casting number on the inside skirt; while a few just stamped something on the top deck. Many piston suppliers used the same piston blank and something was needed to keep track of where a piston came from.

What is cast on the interior of the piston? That gives a good clue to the pistons heritage.

Hi gb. Once you get the engine rebuilt are you going to have the whole combine operational? 24 below the last two mornings in north central ND.

Combine is on it's way to China. Saved motor hoping to transplant into a 445 or ? Motor has very little wear.

Overhead valves. Same motor as Motrac gas,445,Jetstar,Jetstar 2,4 Star. And Big Mo 400,500.600. I think motor will go into my Big Mo 600.
