More on GB water pump

I have a new seal. The sealing surface is hard and large diameter on one end, and the other end is substantially smaller in diameter and more supple. Which way is it to be installed? The smaller supple end doesn't seem to to slide on the shaft; is it suppose to? I can add pictures tomorrow.

Sounds like you have the wrong seal. Seal for GB should be round on one end: have 4 prongs stuck out to fit into impeller on other end.

Yes, my seal has the "tangs" on it. Sounds like I need to polish my shaft (better than having to polish someone else's) to get that seal to slide on there more freely.
