1961 jet star voltage 6 or 12?

i just bought a 1961 MM Jet Star. it has a 12v system now. was it originally a 12v system or has someone converted it to 12v ??

They are originally 12V.

would i want to run resistor type spark plugs in it or non resistor type?

Non-resistor and wire plug
wires. Resistor used to
quiet radio static.

i'm not sure what you mean by wire plug wires. will the ones that i bough for my jeep cherokee and never used not work? i forgot to mention i was going to replace the spark plug wires also with ones i bought for my jeep.

The regular wire strand plug wires work the best. I don't believe the older ignition systems had enough power to work as needed with the resistor wires.

Assuming this is a gasoline tractor, you need to install Autolite 386 or 388 spark plugs, or Champion D16 or D21 plugs.

The preference is to use copper core wires, there are also lets call them "carbon" core wires and those are not recommended for use in these older tractors. Napa sells a really nice and easy make your own spark plug wire kit.

Positive ground assuming it has the original generator on it. Also you can "polarize" the generator-voltage regulator to insure that it is set up for the positive ground.
