M Combine colors.

I am cleaning tonight and I find this piece of MM combine literature. This is for the 2890 and up models. The combines are red! Were the late ones (5297 not included) red instead of the 2 tone/yellow & brown?

All the later ones I've seen were red, the early ones were yellow. If I look later I have some mm combine brochures think I have some of both

The combines were made by Cockshutt, which were red. They also made the Oliver combines. Were there red Olivers? Maybe the later MMs ones were red, earlier ones were yellow/brown and then yellow/white.

The later MM combines were all red about 1970 when White was changing everything. Cockshutt combines in 1974 had White above the Cockshutt label. The red 5297 was an oddball. There was several sales brochures made but no one has actually seen the combine. If I remember right it was same as Cockshutt/Oliver 555 with 440 Chrysler. One big combine with 52 inch cylinder and hard on gas!
The last yellow ones around here were Cockshutt 5542's painted yellow which had 318 Chrysler and were 4296 in MM. 542 Cockshutt used slant six Dodge and were done by 1968. I have most brochures and literature on all the combine series and how they crossed over. Let me know if you need any info.

I believe a few years ago there was a 5297 by MMDEL. Unfortunately I think it ended up as scrap. Would have love to have had it.

Gary: Did not know they used the slant 6. The last year of the flat head sixes were American flat head sixes instead of the made in Canada version. The 555 was Canada only, in the U S it was a 5555. The first year those had a 318. My neighbors about 5 miles away. Then they went to a 400 not a 440. I got to do some thinking now. Toward the end of the 535 & 545 they were available with a 354 Perkins The 7300 models were green one year.

The red 4296 MM is owned by a YT forum member...I took pictures of it at the 2011 Winfield,KS show..

He recently purchased the red 5297 MM and a parts one..I dont think that he has them home yet...Unless someone tells me of another 5297 MM I know of no others in existence..

At least one 5297 MM exists...I seem to remember that the MM dealer at Hammond,KS once had a red 5297 MM on his farm and that it burnt up..I'll ask the boys if I run across them..

Those are some neat combines. Does the 4296 have a rear assist add on or is it a factory set up? The 5297 looks like some of the design like the 7600 MM and 7800 Oliver combines. Did that model just get updated to them? Ive seen pictures of 7800 Olivers on farms but I don't think Ive seen a 7600 MM other than from the Oliver literature.

The Mud Hog was added on in the early 70's. It is the same unit that fits a MF 750. I have a 4296 that is Yellow & Brown that is 80 numbers less than this red one. Both are 1968 models.

No the 5297 is not home yet. I will skip the long sad story why. Hope to get the header off on Thanksgiving weekend. I have decided not to part out the scond 5297, I am sure there are parts around for it. I have a plan on how to get it out also.

By the way, that is 71fordf100 driving the 4296 in the K&O parade.

The 5297 was the same as the Cockshutt 555, & Oliver 5555. The 7600 & 7800 were newer, all brands used same numbers. These were replaced by the White 8600/8800. I have seen three 5297's in MN & Dakotas, one Yellow, two were red. I have seen BOTH MM 7600 & 7800's, both were red. I've observed most of the smaller MM combines of that era, Older were Yellow/Brown, later were Red.
