testing woltage regulator

Check wiring connections on generator and regulator

1. With engine not running, polarize the generator by momentarily jumpering from hot battery source (Bat terminal on regulator)to Armature post on generator. Touch nut or connector ring, not the threads on the armature post.

2. Ground the F (field terminal) on the generator. if it charges the regulator side of the voltage regulator is bad

If still no charge, jumper from generator armature to regulator BAT terminal. if it now charges the cut out side of regulator is bad. If it still does not charge you have bypassed the regulator and probably have a generator or wiring problem
