G-955 or 1355 with fwa

Has anyone ever tried to make one of these? I have seen a G-950 and G-1350 converted to fwa. Figured someone out there might have tried to convert a 55 series. I wouldn't think it would be to hard to do since its half oliver and very similar to the 2255 which had fwa.

That brings me to think of this question. Why was MM so big into pushing the fwa in the 60's and then not even bothering on the 50&55 series?
 
I've never seen a 55 series I've seen a 1350 and 950 like you
said, but no 1355 or 955, a 1355 has to be somewhat easy to
convert as you said the 2255 had it and the 1355 has same
rearend, the g1355 is just a bit longer, sure someone has I've
just never seen pictures, I don't kow why they didnt pushit,
because white didnt put it on the 2-150 and then they had it on
the 2-135 and 2-155 a few years later. Hope someone shares
a picture of a g1355 someone converted
 
Im betting in 1969-70 when there was the "upset" of consolidating MM, Oliver and Cockshutt together production and engineering slowed up. There were plans in the works from what I have read and heard that MM was working on a powershift transmission different from the ampli-torque. There was also plans for a G950 with front wheel drive called a G954. Here is a picture of one that was at the Butterfield MN show a few years ago. From the sounds of it a prototype was built but wasn't put in to production. I believe this one was built with the original blueprints. Im guessing White had a little say so as to which line they wanted in the lead which would have been Oliver because the dealer networks were stronger.

Yes, there has been a G1355 FWA done. It is LP and also bas an
HD800 in it. It is in Illinois. I have seen the tractor about 15 yrs
ago and may have a 35mm picture of it somewhere. It was a
very sharp tractor.
 
The 950, 1050, and 1350 were not FWA, because MM was developing the A4T tractor in the late 60's. The White 2-150 was not FWA probably for the same reason that White was building the 4-150. But then, why did the Oliver 2255 have FWA, and most of the late model Olivers were available with FWA. Though the 2-135, 155, and 180 were available with FWA, probably very few had it. We have 100 series Whites with FWA, and they are very useful. Here's a picture of our 195 White (1992 Model)

Maybe I'm remembering incorrectly, but I thought the
transmissions were a little different ...something about a longer
shaft where the front assist gears hook up???
 
Minneapolis Moline was not much more than a name after 1972. White was in control and the decision had been made to drop the M-M line in favor of Oliver. The only reason the 55 series came to be was the uproar from the loyal Moline dealers. The 55 series were a stop-gap tractor built to give the Moline dealers a tractor to sell until the new tractor line came out in late 1974.

I don"t think there was much of any engineering or innovating done on the M-M side of things after 1970 or so. The handwriting was on the wall.
 
Is it just me or do you guys have really tall corn, looks a foot or two taller than your cab, I don't think ours gets that tall, what state are you in. What kinda corn is it
 
Nice looking tractors. Field looks a little wet. Guess that's what happens when the ground is wet, but the crop needs to be harvested before it dries down too much.
 
FYI the ring & pinion in a G-1355/2-150 is different than in a 2255 and the ones in a 2255 FWA are different than a 2 wheel drive. Remember the 2255 ring & pinion is made for a 2600 RPM engine not the slower turning MM. We were also told in some schools there would be trouble doing a FWA on Moline frame compared to mounting the FWA assist on an Oliver frame. Also FYI for you they were working on a version of the 585 in the G-1000 models. You need to have the next issue of the HPOCA magazine.
 
What magazine is that? I might need to buy a copy. The way White/OLiver/MM were building tractors in the early 70's, everything was constantly changing.
 
That was Viking 50-04N conventional corn, averaged around 25 ton per acre over the entire field, but that section in the picture was more like 28-30 ton. I"m in Western Oregon about 45 miles SW of Portland at Amity.

Here is a picture of a G1355 fwa that my dad built taken a few days ago!! It has hd800 and we are from illinois. Great tractor!!!

Well i can tell you that the 1355 originally had a 585 diesel in it. The HD800 came out of a 2655 oliver. The front axle came off 2255 and all the mounting brackets had to be custom made. The lp tank in front of the cab where the original diesel tank was is off a lp 4020 jd. I was to young to have helped build it but I'm sure there where many other things that had to be fabricated. We built it to pull our planter. It pulled 16/31 Knize for many years but has since been retired from that job and only gets about 25hrs a year. She weighs 21,000Ibs.
