There is a UTU? coming up on an auction. ser# 641043 engine type 283A-4. Hand clutch. What year? Thanks...

I think the 283-4A was a split block engine. This means that the blocks and heads could be removed in pairs. Anyway the split block was introduced around mid 1948. The UTU was produced til 1952. Maybe that narrows it down some.

There should be a tag on the transmishion near the hand clutch. That ser# will tell the yr. the year of eng. ser.# late 1947 or early 48. A good place to look up ser# is here.

that indicates and engine model and serial. Looks like 1947

The tractor serial tag is on the right side of the transmission in back of the belt pulley.

My serial number list indicates 1947 was from 329752 thru 337417 for all versions of UT tractors.

47 single head ran 329752 and to 337417 but in 48 single head ran from 337418 and up. The split head number in 48 was 011480001 then up.
