Pull starting a G950 LP

Question for the Minnie folks. Battery was dead on dads 1865
Oliver yesterday when we tried to load it on the trailer. We
thought no problem, we"d just pull it. Couldn"t get the
amplitorque to grab and turn the tractor over, so we ended up
jumping it. This may be a silly problem, but the tractor always
starts, so this has never been a big issue. All of our
Oliver"s/Whites can be pulled started if necessary with the
3spd in direct, so what are we doing wrong that we could not
pull start a G950?

Mitch, I was thinking about that yesterday evening. I agree, with it in high range you should be able to pull start it, but....unless the 3 speed torque is different.... Im not sure. Was nice visiting with you. I liked the finish on the platform, that looked like a good idea.

Should start with the torque ahead, in low range it will probably just overrun the Sprague clutch. I assume it's a two speed since you said 1865. I'm sure there were three speed ones too, but pretty scarce

I have 950 lp with 3 spd also. Can not tow start 3 spd. with totally dead battery. Something to do with the lack of building pressure in 3 spd to lock things together to get engine to spin. IF you have battery life left, turn key while towing to build pressure and it will build pressure then it will start.

Alan, thanks for stopping to talk, apologies that we were loading up and didn't have more time to visit. Thanks for the comment on the platform, it's not OEM, but it sure makes certain that you don't slip and fall off because of slick new paint! Btw, I meant to tell you yesterday, those rings you're making for the 3pt arm adjusters work perfectly. Thanks again!

Also, if you think of someone who's making new engine harnesses for this thing shoot me a note. Dad has a new dash we need to install and I only want to take it apart one time. We need to go ahead and finish out the details on this thing so we can move on to the next item on the never ending list!

Ha! Well, it's dads and I'm guessing there will never be a price put on it for fear of someone saying ok, but as we were pulling a show tractor out of the grounds yesterday I'd have been willing to give it away!

Funny thing about the battery, it really only needs to turn it over once and it's running. It started every time we ran it over the weekend until we needed to load it. There were people sitting on it all day long, I'm kinda wondering if someone wasn't poking buttons and turning knobs and we just didn't notice it sitting there with the lights on all afternoon, cuz it was dead as a door nail. May need to install a shutoff switch between the battery and the tractor to prevent stuff like this in the future.

Not a problem, at least I got a few minutes to visit, that is whats important. Thank you for the compliment on the rings. I had to look close to see if they were mine lol....that is the way I like it. Ive got a new dash for mine as well when I get to it. Cant think of anyone off hand at the moment for a wiring harness but will keep you in mind.

It is possible someone left a switch on. That does happen at shows. It is a little irritating at times that people cant respect someones property and not touch or sit on a newly restored tractor without asking the owner first. You know, I would have gladly taken it off your hands... ;)
