New 4209 cylinder heads.

When I needed 4209 heads last summer my local dealer was talking $300.00-$400.00 each and I would have gladly paid that but he did not have any to sale even old used ones. Some other people offered "repairable" cracked 4209 heads for $200.00-$300.00.
I got in a hurry and bought some old-new stock 4210 heads for an embarassing amount and way more than I should paid. Since I'm just re-storing-not a "puller", 4209 would have been the best-and the correct replacement. I wanted to keep moving on the project so it didn't end up stored in the scrap pile like a lot of tractors do.
It is all in the timing and who needs what right now or how long to keep something in stock.cleddy

As already stated; the 4209 is not a demand head for pullers but would have a little market for replacement or restoration projects. There are a lot of those out there ( if you know where to look) so my estimate is in the 150-300 range depending on how badly some one needs it.

Ive seen some 602s with 4210s and a couple with 4209s so Im betting either would be correct. I have 4209s on the M5s I have, and 4210s on both 602s. Nice looking progress there.

Us just say if the tractor was worth $600.00 when I bought it now it worth about 3 times that plus the other stuff I needed like bearings, rings, gaskets, radiator repair, water pump repair, clutch disk,Flywheel Grind and some other stuff.
But when I hit the starter it pops right off and roars to life and the few extra horsepower will come in handy on pulling tough stuff. I have a history with this tractor going back to 1971 so I did not mind throwing the money at it. Paint and different sheet metal will be additional but I not doing it for show or sale-Just personal satisfaction.
You may want to get the 4209 heads if you can use them. NOS gave me a satisfaction it was not going to be a re-curing headache as soon as it was done.Cleddy

If your asking me which you weren't - no they were the last 2 available. If you need some contact Stamm Tractor,Washington, KS or Jeff Cavert who posts on here all the time with his phone ##. They will be a lot more reasonable on stuff that will work but it most likely will not be NOS.

4209 heads were relatively low compression on a 283/425 ci motor - 5.5:1. Equivalent to GE30E as used on earlier U Gas Low Altitude. Used on UB Distillate High Altitude. Also used as GE30E/GE30F/GE30H/GE30W on 403 on GTA/GTB for Gas High Altitude at 7.3:1 on a 403/605 ci motor.

Don't think they were ever used beyond U Gas or UB distillate. Not very desirable hence why you found them NoS.

That does not mean they could not be used but as pointed out the 4210 (6.95:1) / 4213 (7.55:1) / 4206 (8.35:1) heads (283 CRs) would be more desirable for most uses. Don't have this in chart, but found an old note that 4209 would be 6.5:1 on 336 ci motor.

Be aware if you are putting on something not using same height head that you will need different push rods and bolts and/or spacers.
