MM 705 water in the oil pan

My 705 diesel seems to have gathered rather a lot of water in the oil pan since I last had her out a couple of years ago. She has been stored at the back of the shed and now has this problem, was running fine when last started. Is it likely to be the seal at the water pump or something a little more complex? Any thought welcome.

I agree with Smoking Minnie, my first bet is the water pump seal, especially since you said its been sitting for a while. The parts should he available to fix it.

I bought an M5 that had been sitting for a few years that had antifreeze in the oil. I drained out about 1-2 cups if I remember correctly. I took the oil filter out and then the steel canister so I could look in the pan. I saw a little trail on the oil pan just above where the water pump is. I cleaned everything up put it back together and greased the water pump a little, and checked that the weep hole was clear. That was a few years ago and it is still running and doesn't leak. Sometimes you can get lucky, but have to keep an eye on it as with anything.

What can happen,the fact that it sat so long is that the seal adheared to the pump sealing surface. And when you started it, it tore loose. Alowing the coolant to seep by. As in Alan's case if you contunue to run it, and are lucky, the seal will many times reseal it self as it mates togather.

My brother has a g6 and the water pump failed and at the same time , the oil pan filled with antifreeze . After replacing the pump there was no more antifreeze seeping into the pan.

Where did he get the parts, was it in Ontario? Im coming over to the US and Canada at the end of next week, should be spending in few days at Hanover for a few days.

Bill, I don't know if you guys use antifreeze or not over there.

My old U tends to collect moisture in the crankcase if it sits a while. I run antifreeze and the water is not green.

you may only need an oil change.

Hi Bill , he bought the parts in US -- it's difficult to get those parts in Canada , so we just go ahead and order them in the US -- can't recall exactly where he ordered them from, but I'm sure you can find them on - line. He may have even contacted Dan Osborne , the guy he bought it from in Texas whom knows all about Minies -- you see him advertise on YT once and a while .

how much water? in cool-to warm and humid climates, like Minnesota & Scotland, Condensation can add water to the crankcase. In MN, if a tractor is stored for a couple years, not uncommon to drain a cup or even a quart of water from the oil, and it is NOT anti-freeze. that is why yearly oil changes on old iron is so important.
