R Z water pump repair

I am repairing a water pump for a friend. I never noticed before that there is a felt dust seal inside the pulley hub. Do you guys replace that? Is that felt seal even available? (RE5514 or RE513- seal only) Might not even be needed these days if we only use the tractor for shows or parades. In this case the pulley got loose on the shaft. So I found a rusted up water pump in the scrap pile, tore that apart and removed a like new shaft and pulley which I will use to repair my friend's. Brian

Hi Brian, I think I replaced mine when I did it, but that was several years ago. Im guessing most of them get grease soaked after years of use and somewhat dry out. Im not sure if they are available any more. I did see some felt seals somewhere that look to be the same size but would have to do some checking. You might be able to find a piece of felt and cut one out as well. I will do some checking. I sent you an email a little while back.

Check with Charlie Biler at external_link.com. He probably has that seal. I am sure he has most of the parts for that pump.

Remember to put a good baffle behind the impeller. It won't work if you don't.

I don't bother replacing the felt. Last time I checked Agco wanted $14 for the dumb thing. Replace the seal and gaskets(and baffle if necessary) and you're good to go.
