Moline U runs out of power when pulling.

I have a U moline that I tractor pull. It's has the 10A1700 block and 10A4209 head. I have 15.5 tires on it also. When going down the track it seems like it just flat runs out of horsepower and won't even spin out. I've had Matt at Motec rebuild the governor and carb. Pulling it in first gear and I would think that it would atleast spin the tires but it won't. Clutch is good also.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks!

Find a dyno, see where you"re at, tune it while at the dyno, Matt does very good work but he"s not tuning the rest of the engine, that falls back to you. We tune stock U"s that usually achieve 50-60 hp. Now, what weight class are you in? Shouldn"t run out of power @ 6000#. riverdalefarmshop.com, Dale and Doug

Dyno is a good idea. You may be running the carb dry and need a low psi electric fuel pump. Higher compression heads will help.

I"ve got the tractor stripped down to 5200# without a driver. Running pressed steel wheels and all. I"ve been pulling it at 5500# and 6000#. We have a dyno at work so I will have to drag it in there and try it out! Could the jets possibly be too big for the tractor causing it to "flood itself" if that makes sense? It does blow smoke out when pulling. I understand you"ll have that a little bit but it"s pretty excessive for being a gas engine.
Thanks!

Have you degree the cam. If you have not that is where I would start. You can lose alot of power by not setting you cam right. If it is running good and about half to 3/4 track it Falls its more likely the cam set to far advanced .

If you are running low octane gas; that will cause some black smoke under load. Are there any other stock U"s that are out powering yours? If so; yours needs adjusting. If not; it is time to modify.

i had a U that had the 4209 heads on it and i changed out and put a set of 4210s on it and it was a world of difference. not a lot of money for heads but made a big difference

my brother jd plowboy had a u with the 09 heads on it. we were running it on 110 race fuel. before we changed to 10 heads, it would get around the 175ft mark and would die just like you turned the key off. pulled it 5500&6000, it would die same place on the track both hooks. came home put the 10 heads on, next pull same classes, it would spin the tires like crazy and never stall out. would not burn the race fuel with the 09 heads. hope this helps.
