U Engine Modifications

Hey guys. Was hoping some of you seasoned MM guys could help me out. I am wanting to hop up my 52 U engine for the occasional pull. Was wondering what pistons, cam, manifold and carb to go with. And maybe a governor mod? I'm not sure what to do. Help me out if you don't mind. Thank you all.

you can get a set of short 4 5/8 bore juggs off a 336 and pistons and that will make it a 336 cubic inch engine. if you gonna pull it you can get a 403 out of a g moline and it will be 403 cubes. put a 670 lp intake and exhaust manifold on it and use same carb. get a pair of 4210 heads and put on it.

You did not say how much you wanted to bump it up or how much money you were willing to spend. Depending on what heads are on it now; you might be able to gain 10-15 hp by going to high compression heads. 4207 will be a good improvement over a 4209 0r 4210. Next; as listed already; use the 336 jugs and pistons. With good heads will go 75-85 hp. Next is when you spend money for machine work. If you can pull with the 403 engine; using it is cheaper than putting the 403 components in your 283. Some places frown on the "tall jug" engines in a "U". If you can run the 403 engine; I have one that has been overbored to 425 ci and dynoed @ 115 plus I will sell. 270-925-5259
