I posted about this tractor earlier in the week. It is mine now, I told the lady that I would give her a grand for it if knowone offered more. She got a couple $800 offers, and called me up and said it was mine.
My son and I went down today and dumped some gas in it and blew up one front tire. Got it off the jacks, and tried starting it It doesn't have a starter, just a crank. After about a dozen flopps it was fireing, but wouldn't stay running. rolled it out of garage and hooked a chain on it. Same thing. Took the idle and fuel jets out, wiped them off and put them back in. Tower it another few feet and it was running great. No smoke 30# oil pressure. My son hopped onto it and drove it home. About a 2 mile drive.

A great find there.I would think a long time about repainting that R. To me, it is on the border line ,the way the hood, tank & rad. shell look. As it was said once, You cannot unrestore a tractor.
What yr is it , as we have the 82 R built. Just wondering is all. Thanks. clint

I am trying to decide whether to, or not to. paint it. The top of the hood and rear wheels are pretty rusty and showing some pitting.
I played with it some more this afternoon and it couldn't start or run any better. A half spin on the crank and it starts now. The brakes are perfect, don't squeek, lock up, or take much pedal pressure to slide a wheel. In 4th gear it will take rite off without even a cough at just over an idle.
After running it this afternoon it developed a leak around the tranny input shaft. Nothing huge and I suspect the oil level is a bit high, and probably the old seal is a bit dry and hard. It haden't leaked on the floor where it was resting since 2005. The tranny oil definately needs changing. It is the color of the poo from a calf with scowers.Maybe some new gear oil and some Lucus oil treatment will fix it rite up HeHe.

I'm with oleclint, on not painting it. Just take a brush and scrub her up real good. Maybe use some paint enhancer on it. Real good buy on it. Enjoy it, and take it to some tractor shows, so others can see it.

A nice find! And a good price for both of you. Finding an "R" with working brakes doesn"t happen too often. Looks to be a 1939 - early 1940 model. Many times old tractors look best in their original work clothes, like yours. Brian

You could do as the ratrod guys and clean it up and spray a coat of clear on it.
