mm u hydraulics

I have a 1950 mm u. The hydraulic seem to work but if I let go of the lever the Implement drops. Is there a check valve stuck? not real familiar with the valve system on a u. Any help would be appreciated.

Your U requires the use of a MM cylinder of the same vintage which had the check valves in the cylinder.

No I am not I have one but it is much newer. Probably m5
vintage. Would it work? grandpa had a u for many years without an mm
cylinder and his worked. Had it been modified somehow? I am
not above this but dont want to do anything to it that will hurt
the collector value so to speak. I dont mind bolt on stuff that can be put back to factory. Its in good shape and the only
modification it has ever had is an alternator. Got the old girl in a
fence row. Not an easy tractor to find like that.

Then your problem solved you got to run one of those type of MM cylinders with that old U tractor. Yes like mention they have the built in check valve in them or your going to have to plumb one in some place along the line. Those cylinders are not that hard to find out there.

you need a four port lock out, they are sold at northern tool. They were installed on Moline tractors and any cylinder could be used. I really like the device, your implement will not drop but you do have to have the tractor running to drop the implement.

I am going to try the mm cylinder I have this weekend but am thinking the aftermarket check valve sounds like a good idea as It has perfect origin all paint. I need to go look at grandpa's old one to see if it has something like that on it. I still have it but its in pretty bad shape. I was wondering if there is a pressure adjustment on the u? It seems like I had to have the throttle up a bit to make it raise my disc.

No pressure adjustment on a U. To have to give it throttle is to be expected. 1000 to 1200 psi is about it.

It might be that the intake screen in the reservoir is slightly plugged, but depends on what other cylinder you were trying, as it might be too small? See how the other cylinder works on it first.
