855 Cummins G-1000 Vista

Saw this on link_disallowed at the MM page: This 600 hp Cummings powered beauty sells at auction May 7th, Millersburg, Ohio, along with a bunch of other 2 cylinder John Deere"s, old cars, and more.
Charm Tractor absolute auction. Alan Yoder 330-893-3885.

Anyone know who did the conversion, and if they have info on how to do it. Looking to do an A4T

Never seen a MM with a 855 cummins, that's neat, and it looks like it fit really nice and they didnt have to cut out any sheet metal, don't think the rest of the tractor would hold up well with 600 hp in a field all day though, be a conversation piece that's for sure.

600 HP would be a stretch, and who knows what it's set at... our town has a Wabco grader with an 855 factory spec'ed @ 130HP!

As you said NICE job, though!

130 would be turned way down, we had one in a John Deere 8970 and a case 9180, don't have either anymore, one was a little over 400 one was 375, now we have one in our dump truck, the 855 is a very good motor. I will agree 600 would be a stretch someone would of really turned it up, not saying the 855 isn't capable of it because it is but don't know why you'd want that much in a g1000.

I repowered a GBD in 1971. I put a 220 cummins in and it turned out awesome. Phone # 269-449-5192 please call for information. No e-mail or texts.

Alan Yoder, the owner of Charm Tractor, installed the Cummins in the G1000. He also put a diesel (don't remember what one) in an IH H.

Well not seeing and after cooler and with out looking at the gear pump on the injection pump and not knowing what heads and pistons are in it or the CPL i would be thinking more in line of 250-290 range . I know what i had to do to tweak my NTC 350 up and as for total output i can not say as when it was dynoed at 65MPH it was putting 478 to the ground when the chain broke and it went out the door . Now the big question is CAN I PULL IT IN THE STOCK CLASSES??

That is a beautiful conversion to the 855. We did a lot of drive train testing in the engine lab at MM, primarily aimed at the ring gear/pinion combination on the G1000/G1050. It was known to be the weak point in the final drive. This was one of the reasons for the planetary drives at the wheels to drive the final torque multiplication as far out to the wheel hub as possible on the G1350.

This 855 combination would have been awesome if set up correctly but don't hold it there very long. No need for Ampli-Torq here, just open the throttle some more!!!

If you have any more stories to share of there, please do. Always interesting to hear it first hand.

There was an A4T-1400 here that got an 855 installed because the factory turbocharged 504 failed. It left the area 20 + years ago. I also saw a green 2655 in PA that had an 855 installed.

Post some pictures of the GBD!!

I'd love to see how it turned out...

What did you do with it?? Pull it? Use it around the farm??

Looking at the engine it looks like it has an automotive fuel pump on it, no variable speed governor(truck application). I would love to see the other side to see what exhaust set up it has. I'm thinking non turbo, cause the turbo would not fit under the stock hood. I'm thinking the engine would pretty well fill any spaces under the hood. If anyone is near this tractor, take some pics of the details and post them.

Thanks for the pictures, what a clean, precise install. I don't know if its the angle of the picture, but it looks to me like you have to remove a frame rail to remove the tall oil filter? Other than that it looks perfect in there.

On the right side there appears to be some oil lines going up and forward, maybe there is a turbo up by the top rad tank. That would line up with the chimney in the first pic. That would make it up to 300 HP in stock trim. It looks way cool!

My neighbor put a 855 in a A4T 1600 and a 2655 also. He hung the hyd pumps and ran them with a cog belt. The 1600 twisted the top trans shaft. It was hollow. The Oliver had a solid top shaft. A friend of mine has still has the Oliver. Used it to pull a dirt pan. Her name is (Ruthie) The name of the lady who owned the truck the engine came from.
