Oil drain plugs, and oil check plugs 335 moline

I have a 335 utility, with TA and teleflow. I removed the transmission cover, to replace the shifting stick, and found the tranny , very low on oil, and milky white, with moisture. I want to empty it, and refill with new oil, but cant find a drain plug on the bottom of tranny. I found one pipe plug, on the right side, just above the rt step, platform. this may be a level plug, hopefully? I have 2 IT manuals, and they do not talk about fill plugs, or oil level check plugs. I also need to change the oil and filters in the 3 pt. Is there a separate oil chamber for the Amplitorque?

Ralphwd45,
The drain for both the transmission and rear end is located on the bottom of the Rear end case. They have a common drain. The amplitorque drain is the forward plug.

That plug close to the step and the brake lock is the level plug. The tranny fill plug is straight up from the oil level plug. Put six gallons in the tranny compartment and two gallons in the amplitorque compartment.

The amplitorque level plug is next to the brake pedals. The fill for the amplitorque is right next to the amplitorque lever.

Originally MM specified 90 weight gear oil, but we used 85-140 for all MM gearboxes.

The hydraulic system is a separate animal and it uses Dextron fluid. The hydraulic drain is located on the operators right rear on the hydraulic case. The fill is the six bolt tin pan on top of the case.

Now go forth and lubricate, with a sinister smile.

I am thinking that plug on the Rt side above the platform is the check plug for the Amplitorque. (If it is near the front of the platform.)

I am thinking there should be another plug further back for the transmission oil level. And it will be somewhat lower on the side. Maybe look under the platform.

I am thinking the oil in the amplitorque compartment will only be up to that plug after the transmission has run some and enough oil has been slung off the gears and run up there to fill it up. After it is stopped, the oil will eventually run through a drain and level out in all 3 compartments.

If its like a 445 or Jetstar, the drain plug is just above the drawbar close to the rear and has a 9/16 hex socket in it. Again, I am thinking that the drain plug drains all the compartments-Amplitorque, transmission and differential.

Forgive me if I think wrong, its been a few years since I serviced one.

If I am thinking wrong, someone will let us know.

Thanks guys, for getting back to me. Charlie, if I understand you correctly, then the Amplitorque, and the tranny, use the same oil?, and the 3 pt uses ATF? I belive that my IT said 32 qt's in the tranny, were they combining the amplitorque, and tranny in their 8 gallon recommendation?

Ralphwd45,
You are correct. I looked up the quantities in a MM shop manual. The book says six gallons in the transmission and rear end. The amplitorque uses two gallons of the same oil. Both of these locations are basic gearboxes and use gear oil. Never use HyTran, 303, or J20C type oils in regular gearboxes.

My parts book shows a seal between the tranny and amplitorque.

Always use Dextron for MM applications as the type 'F' oil is rough on pumps. Around here we forbid universal automatic transmission oils on the property. Putting Dextron in a type 'F' application will make the best transmission slip like a worn out dynaflow. Putting type 'F' in a Dextron application will eat out the pump and clutches faster than three handfulls of sand. Since there are no Ford type friction plates in the MM hydraulics; you never want to use universal, or Ford spec, tranny fluids.
Happy Motoring.

Well I finally got the dirty deed done. What a confusing, nasty job! I removed the large plug, just ahead of the drawbar, and drained all the oil water mixture out. Got around 5 gallons, then poured 3 gallon of diesel thru the tranny housing, till it ran clear. I let that drain well, and found a plate on the back of the tranny bottom, and removed that. I got about a pint of diesel and water mix out of there. I built a new gasket for the plate, and replaced that, then closed up my plugs and poured 8 gallon of 80=90 in thru the big plug by the shifter. I started up the tractor and removed the check plug for the amplitorque, and it was spitting white milky oil out the plug hole, I kept waiting for new oil to show up, but it never did. I came back in to the puter, and reread the advice on the forum, and noticed, that the amplitorque fill plug was mentioned, as being by the torque handle. I went back and found a large rubber plug, that I had assumed was an adjusting access plug. I removed that plug, and found the chamber full of milky oil, and none of my new oil was present. I stuck a 1/2 in hose in the chamber, rammed it all the way down, and proceeded to fill my mouth with milky 80-90, till I got a siphon going. I siphoned around 2 gallon of gook out of there. I poured 2 gallon of new 80-90, in the amplitorque, and replaced the plugs. Next comes the teleflow, and I am sure that it also, will be a big cluster pluck.

I ordered a operators manual, today, from YT. Hopefully, It will have the missing info that the service manuals skip past.

There is a drain plug just for the ampli-torq on the left side ahead of the platform and clutch pedal at the very bottom of the tractor housing. All of the gunk will not drain out of this compartment through the back drain.
