Moline U Value

Looking at Buying a Minneapolis Moline from a friend of mine. I have been involved with John Deere 2 cylinders my whole life and am looking at switching it up to a different color. I am curious as to general parts availability, serviceability, etc. It is a Minneapolis Moline U with a Standard Wide Front. It has been shedded always but has not ran in over 10 years. What is a good starting value to start with. I know that this is an open ended question depending on variables such as tire condition, etc. Thanks for any help.

A UTS (hand clutch U w/wide front fixed tread width) that is in fair, unrestored condition that can run but not: I have bought them in the 750-1000 range. Running units from 1500-up. I guess it depends on how good a "friend" and if you want to stay that way. I have been known to give a bit more than market to a "friend". I have seen good running, nicely painted in the 2000-2500 range.

I forgot your parts question. Many aftermarket and new parts still available if you know where to look. M-M is a product of White. A multitude of parts available from salvage as well. No harder finding M-M stuff than any other. Just have to get in the Moline "loop".

Thanks for your insight. I was thinking in that 800-1000 dollar range. So very helpful. Is there any place I can find all the different model version and what all the letters stand for in the Model such as UTS and such.

Thanks,

Minneapolis-Moline.com has a number of links with info. Just have to look thru and find what is helpful. On the U series: UTS- standard; UTU-tricycle row crop; UTE-wide front w/adjustable axles; UTN- single front wheel trike. Model R and Z used similar lettering.

I recently looked at this 1940 UTS MM that can be bought for
$500...Engine stuck and tires shot..

$1000 would be a good starting point if the engine is free and
the tires are decent..

Just as a word of encouragement, in 1981 I recovered a U in a barn that had not run in 20 years. I got it running and have used it continually since. No engine work other than head gaskets and carburator.

I gave $1500 for my UTS good running condition but needed some work, And it is not hard to put $500 into your tractor. Then it is a $2000 tractor. If the tractor you are looking at has good tires all straight tin. I would say not to be scared to pay $3000.
