Big cube diesels

I was searching and saw some posts about pullers contemplating 605 and 800 based diesels pullers. Did these pan out are they running good?

Probably not. There are probably some 605 diesels out there which would be similar to a 504 (same bore) with a 1" longer stroke (6 vs 5). MM built about 8 engines as a 605 diesel and they were for marine use such as shrimp boats. A naturally aspirated gas/lp tractor will run much better than a diesel in the 800 class. A 585 diesel can do some neat tricks with a turbo. I have some diesel pullers myself, but nothing too fancy, just a little fun.

I have heard of it and thought of it
mysel. But as MM Diesel said, for the same
amount of money, or more likely less
money, you could build up a really strong
spark plug engine that would walk all over
a MM diesel of the same cubic inch. The
big problem with the 336-504 is the
indirect injection heads, and the dierct
injected 585 heads will not interchange.
However, I have found that in a somewhat
stock or "improved" class like 4-6 mph, a
diesel can compete, but I would still have
more HP/dollar spent had I gone with spark
plugs. But I have something different, and
to me that makes it more fun too.

Here's one with 800 cu.in. gas, not diesel. Thought you might like seeing a sharp looking one. Sound reminds me of the ones I used to hear with tank engines.

I'm working on an early 800 in my G vi. It's "walking & talking" and almost ready to pull.

I used the oil filter mount off the 425 which kinda looks like g-fans. I also saw there was no connection to the governor. I'd like to run a governor and think I have to get a belt driven one because the orginal doesn't seem to be right. I have my throttle arm going down the left side to the lower part of the gov.

That is a nice looking tractor and the clip of the diesel pull is very too. Thanks. Not too many old diesels pulling where I am but it is fun when they show. There is a 880 Oliver diesel occasionally and it runs good too.

This was at the Chattanoga, Ohio Farmers' Picnic. Neat place, pulling all day. The owner of this is from northwest Ohio, I'm told he doesn't go to many pulls. This is my favorite one to watch!
