Mention of an A4T1900 in MM Corresponder? Anyone read it?

Anyone read the article by Mike Verhulst in the Feb. issue of the MM Corresponder? There was a mention of a A4T1900 / (2955 Oliver) with a 2 speed power shift and a D585 with a turbo to produce 200hp. That would have been a big beast. Very interesting article.

Yes I read that, it was a very good type up, sounds that there is a few 2455 Oliver's, what I didn't understand is there actually a a4t 1900 out there somewhere or didn't they actually ever make it. There were more a4t tractors built total than I would of ever guessed.

I did read it. It was a very good article. Not that I've spent all that much time investigating but I didn't realize that MM put the HD800 in any of them. I figured that others did that. I hope that they put a huge LP tank on that animal!

That is kind of what I figured as well. It is so nice to get the inside scoop on what went on and things that were planned. Yes, filling it up with todays lp prices might be a challenge lol.....might cost half the price of the tractor.

It kind of sounded like a prototype was built but wasnt tested, although that might have just meant the 2 speed transmission. I think I have a piece of Oliver literature somewhere with a picture of the 2455 on the back.

It kind of sounded like there were only a couple, one sent to the Oliver Introduction show in CA when the 55 Series were introduced. In the article Mike stated that he didnt know what happened to it after the show, assumed it was shipped to a dealer and sold to a farmer. The article also states that serial number records from the Lake Street factory show one more 2455 produced, was in the fall of 1969 to take pictures for advertising, and serial number log as being returned to the factory and converted to an A4T1400. Would be an interesting find to run across an A4T1400 with green paint underneath. This is a picture from an Oliver brochure from 1-70. This must be the tractor he mentioned.

It kind of sounds that way. The first one was kind of an introduction to what was coming, but I guess Oliver dealers werent intersted in the lp and would wait for the diesel 2655. This is a picture from what was on the Oliver board a while back. Im guessing it was a "mock-up" of one. Looks impressive though.

They didn't have separate serial number as from what I've read they put them under the a4t1400 serial numbers. But like Alan said sounded like two were made

If you "squint" a little while reading the ad that Alan posted, you will see that the LP tank was a 100 gallon tank (water capacity). Located over the rear axle like it was, it would be away from the engine heat so you could probably fill it over 80%. Still wouldn't have lasted too long with the 504 turned up like it was and with an 800 I would guess you could burn 15 gph or more!

That is what I wondered. I saw the diesel tank in the back as well. From the sounds of it, the D585 wasnt available yet when these were made.

Can't wait to read that article! Too bad it will be 2 weeks before I see it. Mike is THE expert on A4T's. You can't beat living it!

I've stated on here and other places that production records do not document Oliver 2455 production. Only that it appears only one production unit was painted as a 2455 and it was rebuilt at the factory and sent to a Moline dealer order code. Mike would know about any early intro tractors as they may not be recorded correctly. All I can say about that painted up 2455 below is that I saw it at Rantoul and it does not match production records and the engine was replaced.

Both of our 1400's have the 585 diesel engines. I always thought they were both 1600's til I checked the serial #'s a few years ago.
