What are these two bolts for? They are about one inch diameter with jam nut and screwdriver slot. On right side forward of brake housing.

Those are connected to a rub block that runs on the back side
of the ring gear to keep it from deflecting away from the pinion
in a heavy load or heavy pull situation. They are adjustable as
the block wears away you can keep snugging it up.

Thanks for your replies. In order to snug it, do I screw them in and evenly? What is the procedure? Will this tend to quiet the rear end somewhat?

To adjust the rub block, you run the screws in
evenly until they stop and then back them off a
quarter of a turn. This will position the rub
block closely and correctly to the back side of the
ring gear. This process does not make any noise,
nor will it correct any noises that are in the
trans or rear end. Gear wear or faulty bearings
would be the source of noises. Jeff
