Two More MM's to China

Scrap man got two more MM's last week. They were just 1949 UTS's but they were mostly complete. 275$ for pair. I had first chance but I don't need any more U parts tractors. Even manifolds were complete enough to be repaired. Going price is 35-45$ a ton picked up in yard.

That is a shame. Last month or so I think iron was about $110 a ton here.

Check out what the junker paid for scrap in western Kansas..How can he pay that?

GB MM $1,500
Gleaner Combine $1500

Theres a couple of big sales coming up in western Kansas in March with lots of tractors...At these prices the junkers will get lots of them..

I hear 120$ a ton delivered to smelter. Our smelters are far apart so cost to haul is pricey. In Canada prices probably never will as high as US picked up.

The last big sale (50-60)tractors I was at, the scrappers got about 75% of them...

And even though most were old fence-row tractors, they were still in pretty good & complete condition for the most part...

I bought several, but there were still several Twin Cities that didn't make it.

Pretty sad to see the heritage dwindling, but I know we can't save them all...

I was reading back through some old posts on the board, too, and it struck me how one of the guys putting in some real expertise & advice from hard-won experience was no longer living, either... A lot of knowledge passed when he did.

So it is not just the old iron that is disappearing...

I live in a steel town in Northern Ont. Last fall my buddy got $165.00 / ton picked up in his yard for scrap cars and bought himself a brand new van. Heavy steel is more, and processed heavy up to 4' I length is even higher priced. The scrap market is constantly moving depending on finished steel demand. Way too many tractors and equipment has been scrapped for really no good reason except I guess--- for quick cash .
