ZTU Thermostat

I just started restoring an uncle's 1941 ZTU. got the radiator off and the thermostat housing off and see there is no thermostat. couldn't begin to tell ya how long its been ran without one. question is, do I keep running it without the thermostat or should I put one in it? The tractor wont be used for much more than driving around the farm or occasionally pulling a hay rack or hay rake. thanks for the advice!

I would recommend one. If there is a place in the top radiator tank you can use an automotive style thermostat. If not, use a Ford tractor style that clamps inside the top radiator hose. Either way, you will need at least one 1/8" diameter bleed hole drilled in it so that hot water can circulate up to and open the thermostat.

Just to add I would go through the waterpump and check the baffle plate for holes and the seal. Reproduction ones are available.
